"Concussion Protocols Unwrapped: A Lunch and Learn Session"

Dr Karen McAvoy is a retired School Psychologist from Cherry Creek Schools and a current consultant to the CO Department of Education. She was the school psychologist at the high school in CO that unfortunately had the case of Second Impact Syndrome where a freshman football player received 2 concussions back to back and ended up passing away in 2004. The CO law was named after him: the Jake Snakenberg Youth Concussion Act.

As a clinical psychologist, Dr McAvoy was then recruited to direct the Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children, Center for Concussion. Having been on both educational and medical sides, Dr McAvoy has developed a number of school-based and school-directed resources for students post-concussion. She will present on many practical resources for SC School Psychologists , already available in SC, complements of the Brain Injury Association of South Carolina, to enrich Return to Learn and an interdisciplinary team approach to concussion management in your schools.
