SCASP Advocacy Committee

SCASP’s Advocacy Committee works throughout the year promoting school psychology, advocating for education policies that are positioned to narrow the achievement and opportunity gap, and collaborating with NASP (National Association of School Psychologists) and other stakeholders on policies that promote learning and mental health of youth in South Carolina.  If you would like to learn more about our efforts, please send an email to scasp@scaspweb.org.

SCASP Advocacy

As school psychologists, we have foundational knowledge of what children need to develop socially, behaviorally, academically, mentally, and emotionally.  Yes, we can make a difference one child at a time; however, advocacy leads to policies that affect students state and nationwide.  SCASP challenges YOU to become an advocate for our profession and the youth in South Carolina!  Politics can be cumbersome; however, NASP has provided a plethora of resources and tools on their website to simplify our grassroots advocacy efforts.  Grassroots advocacy is all about bringing awareness of certain issues at the local, state, and federal levels in hopes to influence legislation.

Grassroots Advocacy Examples and Resources:

• Sending pre-drafted letters from the NASP Advocacy Action Center to your local elected officials.

• Attending and participating in school board meetings

• Educating parents and community agencies about our training and set of skills.
